SHOPPING SPOTLIGHT: DIRTY TUESDAY BY IMANI O’BLIGE

In Uncategorized on 04/28/2012 at 4:31 PM

Hey everyone!

It has been a relaxing & lazy Saturday for me but I had to make sure I gave all of you a special treat to keep you intrigued on my special features coming up!

At the very first photoshoot/video shoot for new music artist Velous that I’ve previously written about I was able to meet a stylist on set by the name of Imani O’Blige. She had such a distinct and fun style that she brought to the set and through the clothing that she chose for the girls on set of the video. Every girl she dressed was styled with their own look which complimented their physique which allowed you to look at each girl differently which is true work of a good stylist!

Check out one of the girls on set styled by Imani below:

We met and chatted about fashion and I told her I was a blogger and she informed me that she would be launching an e-commerce site soon. I told her I’d love to feature her once it was launched and viola! Here we are now giving you a full detailed interview that I had with the gorgeous Imani O’blige discussing fashion and her site Dirty Tuesday (www.dirtytuesday.com)

When you visit her site you definitely can see the main theme of her clothing has a vintage appeal, although they don’t give you a dated feel. The pieces are bright, eclectic,  and fun yet updated with shoes and accessories that give it more of a current and modern feel! She even has a blog on her site to give you up close visuals of her pieces sold on the site so be sure to check it out!

Okay, enough talking lol…Check out the gorgeous and talented Imani O’Blige and out interview below!

Tell me about yourself. Name. Age. Location. What is your profession? Why you love fashion….

Ello! My name is Imani Azure O’Blige, I’m 21 years of age from Paterson, NJ and I am the Creator of Dirty Tuesday. I love fashion! It’s like a bitch with multiple personalities. One day she’s cute and drenched in color blocking RTW (Ready To Wear) and the next she’s badass in gritty couture. <3

How did you come up with the name Dirty Tuesday for your site? Does it have a personal meaning?

The name definitely was by accident! I’m not usually a messy person but I was just having one of those days with shoes and clothes all over my floor. In the process of reaching my bed in the darkness, I stumbled and landed my face on my cell phone which read the date. Then Eureka! Dirty Room+Tuesday=Dirty Tuesday lol

How did you get started in selling clothing through e-commerce?

I’ve been dying to sell vintage items for the longest, and since all successful businesses are also online, I figured I’d join the “in-crowd”.

How do you pick your pieces to sell on Dirty Tuesday? ( what inspires you to pick certain pieces)

Inspiration for Dirty Tuesday apparel comes from within. Cheesy right? lol It’s true! I see things that jump out at me like I do any time I shop and want to share it with everyone!

Describe the kind of girl that wears your clothing? Where is she going? Is she a teenager? Is she a young woman in her 20s?

You can be a teenager or a young adult. If you have a creative eye for fashion you are definitely a Dirty Tuesday girl.

How has your clothing site and blog help to build you a bigger platform to work fashion?

It’s given me a base understanding on marketing, trends, running a business and so forth as a startup for where I plan to go.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

Between now and 5 years I see enormous growth for Dirty Tuesday! New experiences, big business, and plenty of supporters!

I’m excited to see the growth of Imani, her website, and her career development in fashion!

Are you a Dirty Tuesday girl? If so check out her fab pieces on her site and support the brand!

THE JUNE AMBROSE PROJECT

June Ambrose is a woman that exudes impeccable style with a good eye for pieces that are tailored to fit the personalities of the clients that she takes on in her new talk show. I love how she has cultivated a brand that has taken  her over 20 years to develop from styling, to designing custom sunglasses, and elevating the look of black men in the hip hop industry from dressing the likes of JayZ and Kanye West!

The first few episodes of her new show The June Ambrose Project on VH1 have been interesting from seeing the range of clients that she takes on to help refine or enhance their personal style. June not only acts as a stylist but somewhat of a life coach in really taping into her clients careers, looking at what hinders them from taking chances in making a change, not only in how they dress but how that hinderance hold them back from revealing their true self and being comfortable in their own skin while looking great!

Its good to see June Ambrose on television representing women of color in an industry that is tough and show the grind of how fashion is really on 10% glamour and 90% grunt work. I’m excited to watch more episodes and see the development of The June Ambrose project.

Will you be tuned in? What are your thoughts on the show thus far?

Let me know!

DAPHNE GUINNESS

Daphne Guinness, heiress to the beer empire is being called to bestow her styling magic upon yet another luxury department store! If you don’t know who she is you better read up on her, she is one of few woman with an impeccable amount of style with a design aesthetic that is so inspiring! I must admit I was recently introduced to her earlier last year through my good friend Kenia and I’ve been hooked on chronicling her past work and upcoming projects ever since! It pays to have friends in your circle that can enhance your own personal fashion library so to speak and I’m glad she does so for me!

Daphne has been called by the Parisian store Printemps to decorate their store after her amazing display in the Barney’s window where she was getting dressed for the Met Gala. The window display will include digital statues of the socialite dressed in designers such as Maison Martin Margiela, Paco Rabanne, and many more. The displays will be captured by the phenomenal photography Nick Knight titled “Visions Couture” display and will be visible to the public on February 5th. (Via WWD)

It’s been 7 years since I’ve last been to Paris and this form of fashion depicted as visual art is definitely one of many reasons to go back. I think its time to start saving to book a flight to see my cousins in Marseille and make that happen ;)

HOW TO SHOP….ACCORDING TO ADR

In Uncategorized on 01/09/2012 at 10:00 AM

Below is a list of rules compiled by the one and only Anna Della Russo on how to shop Winter Sales!

Anna Della Russo is the Editor-At-Large & Creative Consultant of Vogue Japan and one of my fashion idols!

Enjoy!

I’m going to tell you my 10 RULES
for making excellent purchases:

1. Only MASTERPIECES!

2. Not buy USELESS stuff.
They are like the exotic SOUVENIRS,
that when you return from the trip,
encumber and ruin
the aesthetics of your house.

3. Point your FAV PIECE
like your BIG LOVE.
Stay posted to the window,
follow the customers’ movements,
wait the first day of sales.

4. Buy only COLLECTOR’S ITEMS
out of the ordinary:
otherwise you will get the nth black coat!

5. Don’t go RANDOMLY,
you’ll spend more energy and money.

6. Take your WISH-list MAP.

7. Give yourself a BUDGET
and follow your WISH-list priorities.

8. Don’t get DUPED by sales:
They are like the beautiful mermaids
of PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN 4.
First seduce you and then drag you
to the bottom of the sea.

9. Buy only DESIGNER’S clothes.
Why? high-quality is guaranteed.

10. Not fly commercial!
Take the chance to go in the FORBIDDEN
stores and satisfies all your WHIMS!”

COVETED LOOK OF THE WEEK: JASMINE DOMINIQUE

In Uncategorized on 01/06/2012 at 6:43 AM

Every Friday I will feature the “Coveted Look Of The Week.” I receive email submissions from a lot of young fashionable females that feel they have a distinct style that is reflective of themselves and want to share it with you guys! So without further adieu I give to you our FIRST FEATURE…..

Get into her bio down below….

JASMINE DOMINIQUE

LOCATION: BROOKLYN

My style is chic, girly, trendy, classy, fashion forward and effortless. I don’t put too much thought into my everyday looks. I usually just go with the flow and put pieces together. If im in the mood to wear my chucks I’ll wear them or if I’m in the mood to throw on a heel or wedge I’ll wear those too. It kind of depends on my mood and the weather. But I rarely follow trends, I usually wear whatever I want or like, not necessarily what’s in at the moment. Celebrities, magazines, and even trendy people I see in the street may inspire me to do a particular look.

I think she’s looks pretty and has good style!

What do you guys think?
