The last time I saw a Broadway play was when I went to see A Raisin In The Sun with P.Diddy and Phylicia Rashad among many other great actors. I am not a person that would attend Broadway plays, however when there is a play that relates to the African American community, telling a story of our struggle or glorifies the beauty of our people I am immediately enthralled and want to know more about it. I love a good storyteller of Black culture that chronicles our success coming into fruition but also portrays the highs and lows that we face while working to achieve it. Although this play is not about that it does portray Black culture in a positive light but is also very revealing at the same time.
It has been a while since a Broadway play has peaked my interest however when I heard about Alicia Keys producing the play “Stick Fly” I was immediately intrigued when I heard what it was about! The play is about two young black men that both bring their girlfriends home to meet their parents for the same weekend. When they come home an unveiling of many secrets come out, sibling rivalry, class distinction causes tension, amongst a multitude of other things.

Let me just say that is play was AMAZING! Mehki Phifer was looking like EVERYTHING! LOL…but seriously, the cast did an amazing job portraying the different issues that black families face. My friends and I loved the story! There were so many different meanings that you could walk away saying this play represented to you whether it dealt with race, interracial dating issues, infidelity, or missing daddies! I recommend everyone go and see this playwright while its still on Broadway, its definitely worth it!
